--edited 9/30/18--Mailed the check to simple and funds were gradually made available based on their posted funds availability schedule. I'm glad that we were able to come to a solution, but as a customer I feel like working to deposit a check shouldn't be this difficult. The experience with customer service on the phone was a good one though. Updating my star rating to 3.--edited 8/23--Called customer service and spoke to Maria. She was very pleasant and was able to get authorization for me to mail the check in for deposit. Will update this review when funds are made available. Original review below.Have been a fairly happy customer for some time, at least a few years, however they do have issues taking check deposits.Up until a couple years ago, the limit on check deposits was unreasonably low for a bank - but they fixed it, and raised the limit to $9,000 - which is great. Today I attempted to deposit a check for $8,000 from Transamerica Retirement - it's a printed check from jp Morgan Chase. After using the app for the deposit, I received a notification letting me know that Simple would be unable to deposit the check to my account, AND that they can't tell me why.Their suggested solution is to cash the check.... But, then what? How would I move the $8,000 (that I'm walking around with) into my Simple account? Mail it to them...?

I had the worst experience with customer service. Perhaps this is the issue with “banking with millenials” you miss that old customer service backed by old school banking. To sum it up- if you have a joint checking with an overdraft they will close your individual accounts without explaining it to you, and then freeze your money and cards. I called after getting a message that my account was closing for an overdraft I had in a joint account. I asked them was it for the individual or joint? They did not respond but promptly shut down my account after allowing s cereal big deposits to post. When I called in, their staff was so clueless to their policy they assured me my account was open and made me drive to several different ATM machines to prove to me it was open. After calling and getting different reps I had to force them to contact them the real bankers behind the scenes who said all they would do was mail me a check in 3 weeks. - The amount of stress this cause over $24 overdraft was unnecessary. And if that is your policy then fine, but at least prep these young robots you have answering your customer service line.

It was fine until I had to dispute a charge after I'd already reported my card stolen. Then I had a transfer that is normally instant and they screwed that up too. If they pass their screw up to their dispute team, you might as well forget it....

By far the best checking account available for those who refuse to continue to be robbed blind by the "big banks" and the criminals who run them!! Simple has introduced legitimate and reputable financial services aimed at improving your overall financial health. As opposed to certian institutions that claim to have your best interests in mind, all while systematically nickle-and-diming you to death.

My account has been locked for weeks, their team won't give me access unless I send them a bill that doesn't have my financial information blocked out. It is incredibly unnecessary to contribute that kind of data to any business - why do they care so much about collecting this data if their intention is to actually serve their customers? I FEEL LIKE THIS BANK HAS A SEVERELY ILL PRIVACY ISSUE WITH CUSTOMERS

Worst bank and customer service I’ve ever experienced. Seriously, do not waste your time. This bank needs to be shut down and sued. Period. It’s crazy how I’m seeing and reading all these bad reviews now!! This is why it’s important to do your research before banking with an unethical bank! Smh
