Worst first experience ever for our daughter, and ourselves for a college rental. Tonya Madsen was completly unprofessional to deal with over the phone and through Email. Response time with questions was a complete joke. We were even asked to stop “bothering her” over the phone. When your almost 500 miles away you’d expect your go-to-person to be a little more helpful. Not much available for college rental help in Vermillion. Try to avoid this one if possible.

Do not rent from Dakota Realty. They are rude and do not give you notice about showing your apartment. I told Kris she couldn’t show our apartment while we weren’t there and she got mad and rudely told me to just forget it. Very unprofessional.

Tried contacting this company about renting an apartment. Got a list of available apartments and then could not get in contact with Kris. After multiple calls and emails, I am giving up and trying to find another property management company.

Barb Iacino charged me for a repair on a refrigerator I donated to them lol. The bottom freezer had a broken rack underneath. My oldest daughter stood on it when she was around 8 years old. I have pictures of the same fridge in my previous house. I had a chest freezer so I didn't need to use it so I left it and used the top fridge part. Gave it to them and they charged me hahaha. My daughter was a freshman at USD when I left so it was broke the whole time plus I bought it and gave it to them to be nice. I get the impression they would fistfight a nun if they think they can make a buck. Do what you want but it seems to me that many places don't care for our kids or how they are living while at school but love their financial aid. City will do nothing that's a given. Maybe one day the law school and med school will move to Sioux Falls so the kids have better housing and other amenities to choose from.

Just signed another lease with them the other day. Nadeen is great! After noticing that we had some water coming from our vents, we called up Dakota Realty and they sent someone to fix the problem in a very timely matter. Thanks for providing a great service!

We've lived in this apt for going on 4 yrs, never had issues with the unit nor Barb. Peaceful place to live in this 4plex actually.

I can second Jenna Tilstra's review below 110%. Her experience is mine, exactly. Yes, this is a college town, and generally most college students could care less about the hole they live in for a semester, or a few years, but my experience was SO ridiculous I honestly feel its my duty to warn people, on the off-chance they stumble on this review and are looking at a few different properties when they do. Do not rent from Dakota Realty if you can help it, and don't rent a place from Barb Iacino if you do. Find another agent there. If anything goes wrong in the place you rent, and many apartments in that town are pretty old, she will ignore you, lie to you, say what she has to, and generally treat you like garbage once you sign on the dotted line.Like Jenna said, before you sign, when she was showing the apartments...charming...after...I didn't know people could be so cold. The horror show that was my life with that place and everything that went wrong, how it either wasn't fixed promptly, correctly, or if ever, the jokers hired to try and fix things, and most importantly how I was treated by her during it all was just sad. Like Jenna said, I could write a novel. Not gonna go into the details here.I don't write this post thinking it will do anything to them. I'm not trying to hurt their business. They're gonna do fine. This is a college town. Business is going to be there for them from in-discerning college students and others. I needed a place, found a cheap place, and just hoped for the best. What else can you do, right? You could read a review and go elsewhere. By the way, there were news stories run on them a year or so ago as of this post...look it up...I'm not whistling Dixie here. Look elsewhere.

This company deserves negative stars. After countless atrocities (broken dryer, massive flood, A/C breaking down, and so on), Dakota Realty is by far the worst choice for any student/individual to rent property from. Even when things were attempted to be fixed, such as one of the back doors that had a whole in the bottom, the door wouldn't shut all the way unless aggressively forced. Going back to the massive flood, when this occurred, Dakota Realty didn't even bother to get a cleaning crew out to clean and instead charged us for carpet cleaning when we moved out! Also, before we moved out, Dakota Realty insisted re-painting the house while finals were going on. The noise of a pressure washer was outstandingly loud and shattered one of the windows, leaving broken glass on the porch, a safety hazard. Overall, I highly recommend people to never do business with this terrible company. As you can tell, they should be shut down permanently.
