Medical education in Târgu Mureș began in 1945 as a branch of the Faculty of Medicine of the Bolyai University of Cluj Napoca in Hungarian language. After the foundation of this university, the Faculties of Philology, Philosophy, Law, Economics and Natural Sciences started their activity in Cluj Napoca, and the Faculty of Medicine was moved to Târgu Mureș, where it operated between 1945 and 1948 in this form.
