I had a relatively high income when I first applied for a loan with MAC. I decided to go back to school, and called them once I was settled in. I told them my income drastically changed from a high 5-figure salary to maybe a few thousand a year part time. I told them I'd be happy to continue making payments and continue working to pay the full amount, however I would need them to temporarily lower my monthly payments so I could feasibly make those payments. Instead of working with me to come up with a sensible payment plan for a college student, they told me I could either voluntarily surrender the vehicle for a hit on my credit, or they could take it involuntary for an equal hit on my credit.I wouldn't ever work with these people if you intend to negotiate with them on any terms, as they'd rather have none of the money now rather than all of the money later, because I sure won't pay them back the remaining value of the loan after they sell the vehicle at wholesale value. I'm not paying for a vehicle I am not driving.
